Philippa Gregory is an author I have recently discovered and I'm very glad I did. I've always been a little bit scared of reading historical fiction as I wasn't that good at history at school.

This author has written a whole load of books about the Tudors, probably the most famous one being "The other Boleyn Girl" about Ann Boleyns sister Mary.

What I love about her is she writes very informatively and eloquently yet makes her books accessible and very easy to read. They are very easy to get into and hard to put down and at the end of almost all the ones I've read so far you feel as if you got to know the characters and travelled back in time to meet them, yet you also come away feeling a little bit virtuous as if you learnt something.

Ok it's important to remember her work is fictional and she builds upon the bare facts by using a lot of imagination so its not completely historically correct, but if you've been wary of trying this kind of novel give Philippa Gregory a try.
