Christmas seems to start earlier and earlier every year - or is it just me? In times gone by, Christmas preparations would mainly begin early December, and the Christmas cheer and atmosphere would build slowly over a 3-4 week period. Nowadays, we have had so much overkill for such a long time, that when it comes, we look at each other and say,"It doesn't feel like Christmas, does it?" And by Boxing Day people are saying ,"That's that for another year!" as the ads for summer holidays start, quickly followed by Valentine's cards in the shops,then Easter eggs, then before we know it, it is September and the whole Xmas thing starts up all over again! What good does this do anyone except the shop keepers pockets? This year I will be buying very small gifts during December, and trying to get back the magic of an old fashioned inexpensive Christmas that's all about having time for each other not about how much we spent and how many weeks we spent combing the shops for big gifts - anybody joining me????
