This is just a random thought about the new points scoring system. I have noticed on the occasions when I have been away, or not visited Toluna for a few days, that when I return I chase back the opinions pages and start adding my opinions (I think many of us do), adding my opinions to those I wish to. My thought regarding this is: In the past, when doing this and writing an opinion of 80 words (or more) I am secure in the knowledge that I have 'earned' my points, but there are many people that do not track back to mark for 'usefulness' once they have added their 'bit', and not all of those that set the opinions do this either. This will mean that I will not gain any points, and will be a waste of time!
No point in going back through more than two or three older pages of opinions then when the new system takes effect, if you're right about most people not bothering to re-read and vote newer opinions added after their own useful or not, will have to remember that one. Guess we could all agree to mark everyone's opinion useful automatically whether it is or not - flood every opinion with usefuls whatever anyone writes - then this peculiar system they've dreamed up might backfire on them, since they've obviously only done it to save on the amount of money they have to spend on vouchers.
For me personally I feel that not enough information is being given by toluna on what is going to happen and how it will all work. I cannot see the new system being a good thing as sometimes I dont read all the posts to mark them useful because onmy own home page I cannot access it and so dont know who has commented and so cannot mark them useful. Also it will take a hell of a lot of time to trawl through every opinion to mark everybodys viewpoint. I agree with Magnius that they are not going to put in a new system unless it saves themselves cash.
This new system has been designed soley so Toluna can save a few quid and work less. We're all going to suffer a drop in points for it, I have studied what they have said over and over and it just doesn't add up to being good for Toluna members.
Gosh thats a good point cliver! Like you sometimes Ill go back a few days and add an opinion making sure there is 80 words. This is because Ive had time to think about certain topics and other peoples input makes you think about things in a different way. And sometimes when nothing is happening and its a slow day Ill look back with fresh eyes and give an opinion on something Ive missed. But of course when the system changes it would be interesting to know how this will affect marks. How can we find out??
Totally agree as I do the same thing cliver but Toluna do say that the useful/not useful will not completely control whether or not you get points so hopeing that is the case. Everyone is being very pessimistic and while I think they may be founded in their pessimism I am hopeing that if we wait to see we will find that we do not suddenly have a drop in points. If we do then I think its pretty clear that Toluna will suffer a massive drop in traffic and loss of accounts with people up and leaving if they don't listen and revert back. If it does require to be marked as useful or not then I certainly won't be going back and doing older ones that I miss but I think that Toluna will then find that some of their traffic drops.
I know cliver, and i am startiing to have simialrdoubts about this new system. With the existing system, we can choose to mark useful or not as we so desire, and no harm done, except possibly to a writer's ego. With the new system, we are reliant on each other to get points ( which are hard enough to win as it is and a long and tedious process) it seems to me with the new system, we all have to work harder in two ways...working harder on our opinions so that the largest amount of people might find ot interesting anduseful - and reading more carefully ( in fact in fairness to other members, having to read everythong ) We will be passing judgement on each other in a crucial way...our points and vouchers totally depned on US!
