What does a dolly bird mean?

Yesturday i was out walkng, it was hot so i was wearing a summer dress, the next thing i knew was this guy showed down his work van wolf whistled at me said 'your a dolly bird', and than drove off - i have never heard this saying before what does it mean?

It means that he found you attractive! It is, I believe, a term from the sixties (in Britain, but earlier in the States, probably the thirties) given to attractive (mainly young!) ladies that were very pretty and well dressed, because they looked like 'dolls'. It depends on how it was said to you, as to how it was meant, either as a compliment, or with sarcasm!

The term Dolly Bird originated in the 60s when we all wore skirts that looked like pelmets, long hair like a curtain with a fringe, big pouty lips and spidery eyelashes. All the fashions you see now are from the 60s. he called you a dolly bird because you must be pretty.

It comes from the sixties and is a reference to a girl ('bird' in slang) looking "dolled up" (e.g. looking like a doll, lots of make-up, nice dress etc..) so adding them together creates "Dolly Bird"
