Linnet you have made me laugh my head off about Mrs Merton and her son being king for the day! had forgotten about that series. I think Caroline Aherne is inspired, pity she doesnt sem to write any more. Mrs Merton was hilarious..always remember her saying to Debbie Mc Gee ( is that her name??) Mrs Merton on her chat show asks Debbie..what first attracted you to mulitmillionaire Paul Daniels???' ..any more Mrs M ( or caroline in general ) fans out there?? Linnet ta too for reminding me of Mr Galliano's Circus..and do you and Biffo remember the Naughtiiest Girl in the School?? think her name was Elizabeth Whiteleaf and her school sounded fab to me,as it had a School Council made up of pupils...used to read it breathlessly...and does anyone recall the Teddy Robinson books? Still read them with my great niece.
Loved Mrs Merton and all Caroline's work, don't hear of her much now for some reason. That Debbie McGee question is the one that always springs to my mind when anyone mentions Mrs Merton; she also told Debbie: 'I think of you both as our version of David Copperfield and Claudia Schiffer but, you know, on a lower budget' and to Barbara Windsor: 'That's what I love about you Barbara, you're one of us - you're like a big film star, but you're still common as muck!' Hehe, she always got away with it too! To runner Kris Akabusi she said: 'Do you have to plan your tactics before the race or do you just try and run faster than the other blokes?' Hehe! About the Naughtiest Girl, sounds familiar but can't remember it, can only think of another Enid Blyton book, Naughty Amelia Jane.
