i have type 1 diabeties, i inject 4 times daily and use the following products, novofine needles which i use once and dispose of, novorapid insulin aspart 3 times a day and lantus solostar insulin glargine 1 in the evening. i use a variation of accu-check compact plus metersand lancets or ascensia microlet lancets and compact meter.
I'm a type 2 diabetic so I'm fortunate in as much as I don't have to inject. I take metformin which is good. I use an 'Optium Exceed' monitoring system by Medisense and medisense lancets to draw the blood. I change them after every use.
Hubby uses the accu check which has a pen with it and he changes the needle after each testing. Tend to find that if you don't they blunten and can it more painful and not pierce the skin easily. I think most of them do recommend that you change the needle each time as the minute you use it you do damage to the point. Does end up being costly though as I don't the needles are covered under the free medication etc that you get as a diabetic. Hubby has gone on Metformin lately and its been fantastic. Went from readings between 14-21 down to 6-8 and he can't believe how much better he feels. Also his neuropathy has stopped advancing and he is letting less pain in the affected areas.
