1st question - do you always attend your 4 / 5 yearly appointment -?????????? 2nd, question, do you think the age limit should be lowered ????????? 3rd, do you always attend your Smear Tests when they are due ??????? ------------- 1st - i always keep mine, i,m due tomorrow wed7th, i feel if i don,t its .. Sodds Law { 1 for Yowser } there will be something wrong and it,ll go Undetected. but i,m always glad when its over same with my Smear Tests, as for the Age Limit, i do think it should Definatly be Lowered --- what do others think ???????? ---- sorry to do a Sexist op.
i think the age limit should be lowered i am 21 and had one when i was 18 now i have to continue having them. i had mine early cause i had a unexplained miscarriage but i think girls now days are growing up a lot faster than they should that it will just fit into place with most of them and it will also give them some responsibilities of there own bodies.
I'm really bad at keeping my smear test appointments. The whole process is so uncomfortable that it puts me off, and the nurse that does them at our clinic is hardly gentle. I keep putting it off, and then feel guilty about doing it. But then i remember that i don't fall into one of the risk groups and that no one in my family has ever had cancer. I will probably get around to it when i go to the doctor's for some other reason. As girls do seem to be becoming sexually active much sooner, and this is one of the major risk factors, i do think that the age limit should be lowered, though knowing young girls i'm not sure how many you would get to actually take the service up. The new vaccination against genital warts is a very good idea, but it may discourage girls who have had it from having smear tests done, they might think that they are immune to cervical cancer and not realise that there can be other causes of it.
I went for years without my smear test as i am terrified of it being done,i don't know why,a bit of pain is nothing compared to cancer.I had mine done about 3-4 years ago and have changed doctors so i am waiting for a new appointment,i am more likely ot do it now io have kids of my own, when i didn't it didn't seem so important.I think the age limit should be lowered as girls are having sex as young as 13 years old now you hear so they should start them about 16 and then every 3 years until the age of say 50,i am not saying people over 50 don't have sex they do but it is more than likely with the same partner where as younger girls are more likely to be sleeping around. It is about time we had some opinion that wasn't about football or other male topic
as females are having sex earlier nowadays the age should be lowered.i'm now 51yrs old, female, and haven't had a breast screening yet, should i mention this to my doctor?
Hi carol this maybe be a bit long here goes....Ladies it is sooo important to keep and go to your smear tests ( sorry not banging on ) I was and still feel very awkward, embarrassed and hate having a smear test ( mine's booked for next week ) anyway I put off the appointment for as long as I could (probably 3 months) with mundane excuses when I finally went the result came back as abnormal ( in which the doctor said this is common and a repeat smear would follow in six months ) so kept this appointment and went back, result still came back abnormal so I was referred to the local hospital to have a colposcopy which was forwarded through so I had the treatment on the consultation day a few weeks later so luckily I didn't have to wait long ( it was terrifying I can tell you the big C going round in your head and what if ? and why didn't I have a smear regularly like normal people )Yes I am lucky it wasn't cancer just a pin prick of abnormal tissue, so please don't be scared as having a smear could save your life....sorry for going on and no I wasn't sexually active at that time and I don't sleep around. Sorry carol don't know about the 4/5 yearly app ? and not clear on the age limit either.xx
Used to have them regularly and to be honest in the last 6 years I haven't had a smear as have been moving and in the last 6 years have lived in 4 different cities and I just don't feel comfortable with a doctor I don't know. Now I have been here for over a year I will have look into getting one done but being that I have been married for 6 years so haven't been of high risk and no family history I haven't really worried about it. Which is a shocking attitude but its one thing I hate having done. Haven't had a mammogram as still too young and no family history. That will be another for me to start avoiding in 20 years.
Used to hate smear tests as my GP was very short and it felt like a little boy was fiddling round, very irritating, made me want to clip him over the ear and tell him to run home to his mummy...I had a hysterectomy in 94 which means I no longer need smear tests, so, one more irritation out of the way thank goodness...always keep my mammo appts though...good luck for tomorrow carol...am not sure what the age limits are though so can't comment on tht point
...i do have a smear test but i must admit i do not have it when its due, i tend to put it off for a few months, but since my last one i have changed gp so maybe this one wont let me wait for so long....i think every woman should have a smear test, especailly nowadays what with so many girls under 16 having sex... love theresa
