I definitely think social networking is past it. But what's the next big internet craze? If we're doing less social networking, what are we doing more of? Or are we simply going backwards and meeting up with each other in real life now? For example, to swap CD's because you then won't get done by the BPI for filesharing! Plus, being online on your own gets a bit boring after a while - even if you have loads of friends on MSN messenger.
I don't know if you would call it technology, but the best thing now is using stem cells to help people who are blind, they have helped one man to see, this is the coolest thing i can think that has happened in a long long while, how cool is it to be able to help somebopdy get their site back or to get up and walk from a wheelchair.THAT IS COOL!
The Wii Fit!!! I have mine on order an should get it in a day or so. What a brilliant idea. And judging by the response, much of our fair nation want to get fit by using one as they are so very hard to get. Do you know that they are changing hands on ebay for over 100? I managed to get mine for 85 but that is still 15 more expensive than the rrp.
You can't beat a face to face meeting with friends, family and kindred spirits, obviously - but sometimes its not poss...my friend is able to keep in touch regularly with daughter and grandkids abroad thru the Web. And for people like me,whose health probs mean that they often have to miss out on social occasions, being able to use the computer to interact with others is a blessing and helps us feel less isolated.
Nanotechnology is the most exciting thing at the moment, technicians have managed to create little robots the size of a grain of rice that can be implanted into a patient and controlled via remote from outside. Soon they plan to include tiny lasers and scalpels that could cut through blood clots or even cut away tumours.
