have just heard on the radio that sales of sewing machines and sewing patterns are up, as people are becoming more aware of the poor conditions that workers endure to provide us with the mass produced clothing that we are so used to buying cheaply...plus of course the cost of transporting these goods to the UK. Can you use a sewing machine competently? can you sew in general? I am someone who is hopeless with needle and thread, and much as I would like to produce clothing myself. I never ever finished anything i started in school ...we were meant to make a skirt and a nightie but my efforts were not successful..as someone else useless at sewing has just said on the radio, I never even finished making my cookery apron! My friend said she would go to bed on a saturday night and get up Sunday to find a new dress that her Mum had made for her overnight - how I would love to be that nimble with a needle!
not if i can help it be if needs must i can manage a half arsed job that will hold together.it doesnt appeal to me though as something to do out of pleasure.
I have had 3 sewing machines over the years and get rid of all of them. I inherited a singer hand sewing machine with the instructions and can even use that. I have never managed to sew a button properly yet or mend a hem. I am so bad my son used to ask my husband to mend his clothes.
no, we live in a throwaway culture sadly, if i break something i get a new 1. I woul like to learn though, but its just another thing i dont get round to doing.
