By breaking off the toughest part of the stem, rinsing under cold water, immersing the stems only in boiling water, covering and cooking for 6-7mins

boil it in a pan for at least 5minutes and then melt some butter over it

Sometimes I boil it for 5 mins and sometimes I griddle it so that it has nice toasty edges.

If you don't have an asparagus kettle or steamer just put 2 tbsp of water in a microwave safe bowl, put in the asparagus, cover and cook for 3-4 minutes. Serve with a knob of butter and rock salt. Is also nice grilled or baked.
