THE FUEL STRIKE - GOVERNMENT TO BLAME

THE FUEL STRIKE - GOVERNMENT TO BLAME
femalemartian
Having just found out that Fuel in Canada is just 50p a litre - YES - thats right, only 50p. We are the highest payers of Fuel Duty in the World and the Government only froze the last increase until October this year! I am so angry at that............ why can't they just reduce Fuel Duty to an acceptable level........ its definately time for them to GO.

It was only 12p to 15p a litre (depending on Octane), in January, in Russia! But you have to take into account the average wages and standards of life to make a fair comparison. And the fact that Russia produces its own oil! The main problem, here, is the amount of tax charged and the 'fuel escalator' that Gordon Brown inflicted on us when he was Chancellor! And as 'magnius' states, if the duty was reduced on fuel the Government would just raise taxes elsewhere.

If they reduced fuel duty they'd only go and slap it on something else. Fuel is increasingly expensive due to high crude prices and costs of shipping it in. Canada is closer to America so can import crude at a cheaper price.
