What is the "closest call" you have ever had

What is the "closest call" you have ever had
Tk132
I had mine yesterday. I was crossing the road at the pedestrian crossing with my two year old in his pushchair, he pressed the button and we waited for the green man, as I pushed him out into the road a car sped through the red light, I'm still not sure how I managed to pull the pram out of the way in time as I didn't actually see the car coming, maybe it was instinct or something I really don't know, whatever it was it saved my little boys life as the car had no chance of stopping (its a 30mph road but he was going more like 40) and my baby was totally exposed sitting upright in the buggy. My hands are still shaking now and I feel sick thinking about it, I didn't sleep last night as everytime I closed my eyes I saw a mangled pushchair. I think I will go cold thinking about how close I came to losing him even when hes all grown up.

The memory of my closest call still makes me break out in a sweat and shudder. We had a poseur's Gin palace (boat) moored in Mallorca in 2004. We went out for a day trip and on the way back, a sudden storm blew up, the boat grounded on sand near some rocks and the wind kept blowing us closer towards them. It was dangerous and scary especially since I dont swim. I had on a life jacket but having to jump off and push that big boat away from the rocks with a boat hook took strength and power from everyone. We were trying desperately to keep the boat away from the rocks. All the while the wind was getting stronger and stronger and the skies blacker and blacker. Our May day call alerted the Spanish coast guard and they raced towards us at a great speed and managed to drag the boat off after 45 minutes. Meanwhile, I was up to my armpits in water and panicking about drowning. Not an experience I want to repeat and we have since sold the boat but to this day, I still have the occasional stress nightmares and thats the scenario that seems to come through.

I had an entrance exam for an american university at an institute in Bishopsgate. The day beforehand we went over there to find the place, and while we were examing the maps we leant on this van that had been parked near to the building. When I turned up for the exam early the next day the place looked like a war zone, all the windows had been blown out with furniture and things hanging out of them, the road was all chewed up and there was aper everywhere. The exam was still on but we all had to be escorted to and from the institute by the police. I only found out what had happened when I watched the news that night, discovering that the vehicle that had blown up was the one we'd been leaning against the day before.

I was involved in a car accident 6 years ago & was hit from behind. I was pushed into on coming traffic & something took over & told me to turn the wheel to the left & head towards the curb.

A few years ago i was in a car with my then boyfriend and there was a wasp on the inside of the car and so with the drama of both of us trying to get the damn thing out of the window, we had not noticed that he was not driving in a straight line. The car mounted the pavement, with that we noticed , I screamed and my boyfriend managed to slam the brakes on just missing the trunk of a tree that we would have careered into had we been going any faster. I was shaking like a leaf and crying. It was awful when i think what the outcome could have been I still feel sick to the stomach.

It all about accidents today isnt it...Hi Tk.I had several situations like that, and all of them were caused by stupid drivers, ones I was in a car of one of those. The guy was drunk (well I know what youd say,why get in a car if you know the driver is drunk,I actually had no chose as Id be left miles away from the city if I didnt) I was petrifide from themoment I got in the car and there were 2 other friends of mine,we were all coming back from the lake in the forest. As we got on the main road my friend who wa driving went mad and started rasing with someone, when he didnt notice the turn.As he started turning and pressing the breaks, the car circled around the road than turned upside down several times and spinned of the road.I was the lucky one and the only one who stayed inside,as everybody else flew out of the windows...I didnt even break anything, just a couple of bruises. The driver broke some ribs, and had a concussion and something else,my best friend (his sister) broke some bones too,the guy at the front sit ended up in coma for 3 months or so....just learned to talk again about a year ago.Just a swe got in a car then my friend was sitting backwards in the middle (what can be more dangerous) and I happened to tell her to sit properly as I was the only one really scared.Welll thats what Id call a close call...she would have been dead now,if she staed in the same position. After that I never cross the road on red and look everywhere before crossing...And am generally very scared of driving aND cars.....I was such a fool then.....Should never have gotten in that car.But the driver didnt learn much from it....we arent great friends any more.Sorry for the length...))))And I am really happy that al you have to deal with now is fear, nothing more.Stay positive!X

The closest call I have ever had is being mugged in broad daylight in the middle of a busy high street by two burly men. I am a small female under 5 foot and no one came to help. Luckily one of my attackers only wanted my money. The other one would have killed me if it weren't for his mate

Its horrid and I see it every morning going to work. Cars blindly driven with the driver not looking at the lights. I don't know whether it is ignorance and they think they are more important than to wait for the lights or whether they are just blindly ignorant of their surroundings. Either option is scary. On the other side - and not you - there are a lot of causes of people walking on red or talking on their phones and walking out without looking. I think whether you walk or drive you have to be really really careful and be defensive

Where do I start? I used to be in Bomb Disposal, and counter terrorism' - so thats not too safe! I have been shot at, people have tried to blow me up, and when i was running pubs knifings, glassings, and a shooting! But thats not really what you mean - when I was on holiday in Russia, a bomb went off (probably Chechnyen), within wlaking distance of our Moscow Hotel lobby, and about 15 minutes after my wife and I had walked there! I have also had many close calls when driving or being a passenger, and as a pedestrian. And once I was part of a NATO exercise 'hunting for mines' off the North German coast - we found and marked a lot, only to be told that we were not in the area we were supposed to be, and were actually in a wartime defensive minefield! (And that can really exercise your sphincter muscles!!).
