chat rooms where you can meet people from around the world who share your interests in a safe and non-harassing environment ? Or are they unsafe places where users saftey is at risk ? What i dont get is How can you tell that the person you're chatting with is who they say they are? or is that part of some users fun ? Yet these chat rooms seem to advertise on many banners and pop ups as a good thing when i have looked in on one myself it just seemed full of people posting sexual comments, insults or foul language type of chat ? do other members use these sites ?
Nope, used to but find them less than appealing now. I find that a lot of people are very false on them and build up fake personalities and personas. I also find that you are constantly hit on and sent unwanted pictures from males which is just a huge turn off and they don't take the hint. When they do take the hint they get really nasty at being turned down and then make your life hell. 10 years ago I met and made great friends on chat rooms, now I can't last longer than 10 minutes before I am disgusted with the behaviour and comments and falsity. I think its sad as they are great resource that just gets abused by a percentage.
When I first got the internet (god knows how many years ago) I used to use chat rooms all the time. These days I chat in message board/ Forum type places rather than chat rooms. I agree chatrooms can be fun, but so many people abuse them and the people chatting I think they are a waste of time these days. Alot of these message boards have their own chat rooms in which you can chat with people from that board which I have found a much better option.
I must admit I do not actually myself use chat rooms, I think I must be a bit old fashioned this way or have heard too many scary stories about them even though I am not youngster, I do beleive that the are good for some people but also some people like myself do not trust them. I must admit though I would probably find it interesting to be able to talk to someone in another country with no ties or hassle just to get the feel of their life in their own words in their country.
used to more but now tend to just keep in touch with my online friends via the odd email and facebook message. But i guess facebook could be considered and used as a chat room so yeah...
No i have not used chat rooms and i am not even sure how to get onto one. The nearest i have got is here on Toluna and thats very pleasant and unthreatening, but from what you say toppy about chat rooms, sounds like the users there have jsut got one subject on their minds rather than the thousands odf subjects we mull over here on Toluna, so i think i will just stick with my Toluna buddies, i feel like i know where i am woth them! x
good question, but i can not add much, but wanted to say .. hello .. i do not use chat rooms, chatting a fashion on Toluna suits me fine, i do think people have to be extra vigalant on chat sites, i remember an old cartoon i saw on a web site, a lets say .. not attractive man chatting to a not attractive lady, but both describing them selves as ... The Bees Knees, yes it was only a cartoon, but .. i am sure it has happened, and will happen again, and again, if i had youngsters at home i would be vetting them if they went on them, and would prefare they did not .. even an Axe Murderer could come across very Charming. ... { see what i mean about my chatting on here, i dont need a chat room ..lol }
