online romances for or against ?

online romances for or against ?
toppy85
Does typing messages to a certain someone in a chat room, every night for several months in a row constitute dating, or a relationship? Does texting someone several messages a day over your cell phone for a long time constitute dating, or a relationship? I have read many horror stories about internet romances but also some happy endings so do others think internet romance is a good thing ? or are you like me and think it can be a dangerous thing ? or have you got a bad story to tell ? or a happy ending ?

Oh yes it can be very dangerous but as you say it works for some so why not? Most people are aware of the fact that much of what they read on the internet might not necessarily be true, especially in the case of what people say in chat rooms and forums or even on opinion sites like this one. I know one person at least who is very happily married to someone she met in a chat room and they are expecting their first child together this summer, so there's one happy ending at least - good on them I say, and I'm so happy for them and for everyone who has met their true love in this way - but so sorry for those whose internet romance didnt turn out the way they imagined it would.

Chat room romances can be a let down because so much lies can be told through emails, texting and messaging BUT many people have found romance through these mediums so I think its a matter of getting it right by following your instincts. I know people who have met and married through a chat room and are seemingly very happy now.

I suppose It is ok for the sad individuals who cannot be bothered with the real thing, although where the romance comes in is beyond me.

I posted an opinion asking how people met their partners and was surprised how many replied to say they had met through the Internet or dating agency or blind date. there doesnt seem to be a stigma any more and it appears to be a good way of meeting someone, as long as you exercise caution and dont lie too wildly about yrself so that when you finally meet,( and you need to, if it is ever going to constitute a real relationship), the other person isnt terribly disappointed! Think there are lots of horror stories out there as well as happy endings, I'd advise anyone, just be careful, stay levelheaded and it should be ok.

It may do, yes! Although I recently received 'a blast from the past' when an ex from 30 years ago 'phoned, completely out of the blue, and she sends me txt messages every so often now - but I do not consider that 'dating', possibly a friendship sort of relationship (we are both married now); My wife does not mind. I suppose that 'electronic dating' in itself is ok, but you never know who you may be chatting with - so meeting up could be dangerous. I am sure there are plenty of 'happy endings', its not really 'my thing' but good luck to anyone who does this!!

I met a guy in a chat site, chatted online for months, chatted by phone for months, and finally met in the USA, and several other times after that. It was an amazing 2 years, but we both eventually realised that unless one of us moved to the other's country it wasn't going to work. We talked of marriage at one point, but it never happened. Too much time apart to think about things and chicken out. I won't regret the relationship though. We both had a great time and we're still friends and talk online or by phone occasionally. I think we both needed an adventure :-). My story had a good ending I suppose, but I agree with you about the possible dangers. I would advise anyone "dating" someone online to be very careful when it comes to actually meeting. It's not something you should do lightly.
