Possibly, i have been in this situation when i lived on my own in a bedsit after leaving home after an argument with my father. If it wasn't for the local corner shop allowing credit i don't think i would have been able to eat. As it was i mainly only ate fried egg and cheese sandwhichs, or toast, or the occasional bit of meat that i could buy.Plus when i went round the girlfriends house for sunday dinner.It taught me lot about the value of money.Personally i think a spell of kids having to live on their own is a good leson as to teaching them how to control their finances.

Cat food yes, dog food no. Cat food is goot cuts of meat which are fit for human consumption, dog food isn't.
yep,if you ane your family are starving then i say yes,but wouldn't like my kids to have to eat it

properly, less salt & colourings then our food i heard the other day
Some pet foods look better than our food. Canned in the same way in the same conditions. Sounds gross, but yes, if I was starving.
