people join up and they know where they will end up going, these countries bread terrorism so something has 2 be done. iraqi secriuity forces are starting to get by now with the british and the afghan army is constantly improving. on the issue of kit the stuff we get now is top notch compared to thi invasion of iraq when all we got was 2 sets of combats n boots if u were lucky

I guess it's thanks to Tony Blair rushing in too quickly to back George Bush's decision to invade Iraq that we have the situation where, us having been so heavily involved in creating some of the problems they now have, we are duty-bound to stay at least until the country is fully able to manage effectively without us. Blair was so quick to agree with Bush at the time that war was the only option yet Bush said he'd invade whether the rest of the world backed him or not, thereby proving he had no regard whatsoever for the opinions of other countries on the matter.

Both our and us governments let the iraqi people down back then when it was classed as a war,now no trust by its people.street fighting / terrorism doesn`t it remind you of ireland, poor tommy was there for year`s this could be an other long drawn out campaign.now troops and their families have to suffer being killed by a terroist is bad enough, but whats worse is getting killed by blue on blue, gun hoe yanks.

I think belfastuk1 has a point - why ARE we fighting this war,and for so long, apart from the fact that Tony Blair sent them? There has been death and bloodshed, and also our soldiers have done a massive amount of good, but time is going on - are they really supposed to be there indefinitely? I take philco's point on board, but will the day ever come when their own armed forces ARE able to deal with the situation? We hear that our soldiers haven't got enough equipment and so on so it must be very difficult for them ( and for the families back home)
