Arrghhh PE...it is my firm belief that PE (and more specifically, PE teachers) is designed wholly to put kids off doing exercise for life. It's aimed squarely at those who are really good at sport, and lets face it, those who are good at sport are going to do sport anyway. I absolutely hated PE from the age of about 9 until I left high school, I really dreaded it.
It should be aimed at those who hate sport - now five years after I left school, I'm going to the gym regulalrly doing all those lovely cardio vascular things that you never got to do at school, and I've even started enjoying running in a perverse kinda way...and I'm actually considering running the london marathon....ARGH!!
English Lit was mostly designed to give you a hatred of Shakespeare I reckon. Shakespeare is meant to be watched, not read, but the way it is taught in school puts people right off it.
I hated P.E. - just couldnt get over that darn horse! and gym teachers, they are all sadists. Sometimes thank God we had Scottish dancing instead. I hated needlework too but at least I didnt dread the lessons. I dreaded elocution lessons because the teacher was a mad mad woman who terrified the lives out of us. I took to hiding in the toilets when it was time for her lesson, lucky for me she never noticed I was missing and we dropped elocution after year eight thank goodness.
