Just had an email back from Toluna!! (Boy, that was quick!) To stop people being able to see how you vote, just go to 'You' , then 'Your Account', and finally 'Your Preferences for Polls and Topics' and adjust accordingly!!
i do not see any options to stop people seeing how i voted. the only options that i can see there are "do not show polls i already voted on " and "do not show topics i already posted on ". i cannot see anything else. those options do not stop your votes being visible to others, the key word there is "already". these options have been there for months, and are to stop polls you already voted on being visible to you (so you don't keep voting on the same ones by mistake). i've had those ticked from the start. my votes are still visible. so i'm not sure what toluna are on about there. i would not like my poll responses listed as some may be relating to my age, location, wage, or other personal information - or i might simply not want it listed.
Unfortunately, I don’t think the “Preferences for Polls and Topics” settings do what you would like them to. I believe they restrict the number of polls and opinions you can see by removing (or not) the ones you have already voted on; it does not hide how you voted. I agree that there should be a feature to hide how you voted in Polls, in fact, I think it should be the default for Polls. I think only the aggregate results (be they broken down by sex, age, etc) should be public. My reason for believing this is because say you wanted to conduct a very serious and sensitive Poll, e,g, Have you ever been raped? Very few would answer this Poll, or answer it honestly, if the result can be viewed. Opinion topics are a different matter because you are openly voicing and volunteering a viewpoint.
