Two police dogs have died after being left in a Police Dog Van outside a police station in Nottinghamshire. How the hell did the dog handlers allow this to happen!! It is an act of neglect leaving dogs in the van in this weather. They must have been locked in the fan for a long time for death to have happened. I for one, as a dog lover, am enraged that this has been allowed to happen!!!
How can you forget you have a dog in your car. You don't do you. I have noticed this story is trying to keep its head down. I am happy the RSPCA have got involved.
also I read that the police have decided not to prosect. If this is true or not I dont know. The RSPCA were meant to be looking into it. But knowing the police I smell a hugh cover up.
This is totally shocking , they should know better and be setting an example. I have a dog and would nt dream of leaving it in a car in a hot day it just would nt happen.
They dont have to be in the van for a long time for the searing heat to turn the inside of the vehicle into an oven. It only takes 10 minutes for the temperature to rise enough to cause the dogs to have problems panting to cool themselves down. When you get into a hot car, it takes you 7-10 minutes to get the inside to cool down. Thats all it takes to kill an animal or a baby in a car, even if the windows are open. I feel sure that the dog handler is full of guilt and remorse because it was an act of thoughtlessness and not neglect that caused the animals to die. Im sad for the dogs especially since I have first hand knowledge of such a situation but I am even sadder for the man who will now live with his stupidity for the rest of his life. Not a day will go by when he doesnt ask himself "What if I hadnt lingered and chatted" or "what if I had been quicker getting out." His life will be punctuated by a thousand "What ifs" from now on. I have seen innumerable cars parked with a panting dog left inside and when the owners are found, they always say "But we were only gone 5 minutes." Before we bay for blood and for having the dog handler lynched, I think we should wait for the facts to come out as newspapers always only give you the sensational side of a story but its worth going through the whole report before making a judgement.
I too think that this is an outrage. The police are supposed to make us feel safe and supposed to be enforcing the law upon us. I can think of many cases where people have been punished for animal neglect and animal cruelty. It makes me wonder whether animals such as police dogs and horses should be used at all. After all, we have the resonsibility to look after animals and they have no way of communicating with us to tell us if they are happy doing what they are doing. i do not think that it is fair to make anything- human or animal take part in anything that they do not want to do. therefore i was horrified by this story
i am shocket too police dog are like body guard for handler and the police handler let it die in the car that is very sad thing specaly coming from the police if it was from a normal citzen it would not be a big thing but the person would get porsucated hopefully this officer just has to get done for this and nevery be allowed to be a handler of a dog or work in the mounted unit (Horses) and if he very unlucky he might loose his job
Gross negligence. I hope the handlers responsible endure the same treatment as any other person who has committed the same crime and that the full penalties are charged. It almost seems slightly ironic that the people who enforce the prevention of this behaviour, can be at fault of it.
I think it was extremely irresponsible of the handlers who are supposed to be knowledge in the handling, training and caring for their pets which includes commonsense about not leaving dogs in a car on hot day!
Its sad and I imagine they are probably beating themselves up about it but its a tragedy. Its also a double insult because the dogs were donated after the Nottingshire police called on the public to donate dogs that would be suitable for training due to a shortage of dogs in the force.
Its very sad but people need to start thinking a bit more and not just saying - it wasn't my fault. When you have a kid or a dog its your responsibility and you have to be more onto to it than this. Just waiting for the first child death to happen as still seeing kids left in cars in the heat!
