A horse is a horse, of course, of course And no one can talk to a horse, of course! That is, of course, unless the horse Is the famous Mr Ed!!
I can remember singing along to this each week. It is still one of my all time favourite tv shows! Mr Ed was an intelligent Palomino horse who could talk. His owner was called Wilbur, and he was the only person Mr Ed would speak to. Mr Ed was also a bit of a troublemaker and got Wilbur into all sorts of scrapes.
The program started each week with the words "Hello! My name is Mr Ed". The horses lips would move when he 'spoke' and it was quite clever the way they did it with no special effects (we didn't have them back then!)
Remember the rumours that they were doing rude things with a carrot to Mr Ed to get him to talk. Actually they used to put something on his gums to make his lips move but I liked the story of the carrot when I was young because it was rude and therefore funny.
Aw Sue, it was one of my favourites!!! That and Dennis the Menace!! Do you remember him, (not the Beano character) but an American little boy with a piece of hair stuck up!! He was always in trouble with his neighbour called Mr Wilton or something!!
I loved the concept but I hated the voice. Why did they give him such an awful voice? Ten years later I had a maths teacher with the same voice and when I told him he sounded like Mr. Ed he was actually flattered. Moron.
hi sue malley yes i can remember Mr Ed it is so funny how we remember are childhood days and as from Mz Kazz opinion i see it was bath and bed i wish you good morning as you read this sincere regards macmac3
Yes, I remember this. I have to say that even at primary school age I suspected Wilbur was a bit of an idiot. Week after week he would talk to his horse in front of people and the horse would let him down and not answer; you'd think he'd learn his lesson and keep his chatting more private. I actually wondered (I was eight or nine I suppose) whether it was all in Wilbur's head, and if the series would end with the men in white coats taking him away for ECT treatment. God, I must have been an annoying child.
