I just read about this and think that it is completely out of order for soemone to send hate mail regarding this. The strangest concept for me is that I have to assume that the people who sent the hate mail are people that believe in God and therefore should believe in kindness and people who should know how to forgive and accept others' views. This is exactly the kind of happening that makes me stay away from religion and makes me doubt whether God exists.
This is ridiculous as a program that is from a more scientific or evolutionary nature is not likely to mention god, does not mean that he is not believed in, yet more religious extremism
His programmes are showing nature in its element. There are not references to evolution, so why should there be any references to one of a number of false gods (in that, I mean it wouldn't matter which god, someone will take offence that theirs wasn't credited).
There is no reason at all why Sir David should credit 'God' in his programmes, assuming that he is not a religious man, any more than he should credit any of the other multitude of creation stories which people have come up with in the past. I think that the few religious people out there who would do something like this are making a bad name for the majority who, I'm sure, are kind loving people. These people are shooting themselves in the foot.
I don't see why God-believing people should criticise Attenborough for not including a reference to something which he does not attribute as being the main reason for the origin of life on earth. If he said he was a Creationist, then I could understand, but I don't think he ever has said so.
For goodness sakes! His programmes are about the wonders of nature and aimed at all those people from all walks of life and religous beliefs who are enthralled by our planet. To introduce God and religion would be a hugely controversial concept and would detract from the fundemental aims of the programmes: increase our knowledge and awareness of the natural world around us and to marvel at it!
