It could just be me, but I am really enjoying the fact that Toluna seems to have an average age of over 25. The previous sites i have been a member of, although nice, were all American and had an average age of maybe 15 or 16. It is refreshing to come here and interact with the older generation and talk about things that are more serious in nature as well as being relevent to an inhabitant of England. I have always tended to lean more towards befriending those who are older than me, but until now never had the chance as I dislike social networking sites.
I was wondering then, do you like Toluna for this fact as well? Or would you be here regardless?
I think there's a fair mix of ages on this site and I like the mix of viewpoints here. I don't mind slightly immature topics being posted occasionally. What gets me more is the barely comprehensible rant that is occasionally posted. Some of them I just can't understand at all. I try not to be judgemental, because English might not be their first language but in many cases I suspect it is and that they're just not capable of expressing themselves clearly.
I think the opposite is true for me, as I love to read all the opinions of you young 'uns. As lisa says you can usually spot the really young ones by their topics (favourite sex position!) before you open it up. But even they don't put me off as I often have a giggle at some of them. I hate nasty comments and these cannot always be attributed to the younger members. I have never gone on any other networking sites just for thr fact that I imagine them to be all very young, I may be wrong. But I love Toluna for its ecclectic mix of young and old, and as long as Big Brother's not on telly the majority of opinions are great!
um...i've not really thought about it to be honest - i do like ti see what other people think regardless of their age..but let's just state that i hate it when younGER people than me come one and bring up silly inappropriate questions.....(not that i'm mature mind you!)
I'm attracted to Toluna primarily because of the points on offer for working towards vouchers. I do enjoy the opinions on here though - I have about 20 users bookmarked in a folder in my favourites and scan through it frequently to see if there are any topics I'd like to add to. I think it's always good to discuss things, but then I also listen to non-sport Radio 5, and watch the Wright Stuff. If you just associate with people solely like yourself, you close your mind to a myriad of divergent and thought-provoking opinions.
I said in an opinion posted early today I had recently noticed the same 'set of members' responding to opinions and stated rather boldly that we ‘grouped due to similar intellect‘. Yet we are diverse in age & character. Yes I do think maturity plays a part in being a member, but that in itself is not always determined by a person's physical age. You are 21, I think you have very mature thoughts for a person so young in age. Forgive me dissecting your character but I believe you have maturity because you are obviously intelligent and have a thoughtful & questioning mind, this allows you to consider other matters rather than just your own. I also believe selfishness & stupidity tend to go hand in hand. People who consider things concerning themselves only have a tendency to be a little foolish in my experience. I guess it comes down to being what I call 'alert & alive', to be aware and considered of things around you. I think a person’s quantity & depth of experience adds to maturity - having lots from an early age or not very many by an older age. There are exceptions to every rule but in general I think I am attracted to Toluna for it’s diverse level of intelligence rather than specific ages.
Totally agree. I must say that when you see most of the topics of the under 20's you know straight away before you see their profile info that they are under 20 because they just seem to be a certain type of topic.
I much prefer the more mature or well thought out (can be immature but interesting) topics that we get from our more mature members and they are the topics that really interest and keep me coming back.
Totally agree with the age thing too, I have always had friends who are normally at least 10 years older than me as I just find that I relate better to them than those my age, especially when I was younger as the people my age tended to be idiots straight out of uni whereas I had been working for years and already settled down somewhat maturity wise.
