I think one of the most logical explanations is that Cain must have married or had children with his sister (although a girl child is never mentioned in the Bible) after he was banished from the garden of eden for killing his brother Abel, which makes all people of the earth related to one another..what are your views?
Its the bible, it has holes in it large enough to sink a battleship which is why so many people struggle to take it as a serious concept of the conception of the world.
Dawes covers the religious answer quite nicely so won't go into that but doesn't it imply that there was a bit of incest - oops insulted the religious but if they all originated from adam and eve then it was kin marrying kin folks.
I don't really know and don't really care too much as I believe in Darwin's theory of evolution as there is proven evidence for that and nothing that truly proves the idea that some supreme power created the earth and all the universal. Only that a large number of people believed that to be so many thousands of years ago.
ive often thought about this, and can never sum it up,how can all the people in the world come from just two people, and have all these different surnames, nationalities, skin colour and languages i dont understand it !!
I suppose you have to consider whether you are a biblical literalist and that every word in the Bible is true or whether it is a combination of mythology that has become linked with elements of history. If you are the former then it is up to you to explain it, if the latter then enjoy one of the best stories ever told
If you do want a biblical answer, people are descended from Seth, third son of Adam and Eve. Genesis 5:3 "When Adam had lived a hundred and thirty years, he became the father of a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth." Adam then had many other children too, including girls. Genesis 5:4 "... and he had other sons and daughters." Genesis goes on to say how the line of descent carries on from Seth, but doesn't say whom he married. If you believe the mythology that Adam and Eve were parents of all, then it would have had to be one of his own sisters.
The irony of me, an atheist, instructing on the bible is really quite delicious.
I do not believe in religion at all, the whole concept is so blatantly false that it defies belief that anyone can buy into such crap! The Bible itself is so badly written, full of lies and inconsistencies, with a few facts written in to convince the gullible that it must be true, yet if you look at it from the outside, it is so obviously an attempt to enslave the minds of the people and force them to tow the line! There is no magical being in a mythical heaven; it is just science and chemistry. Everything about religion has been proven false, yet a few misguided people still cling on to everything they read and are told, it is actually quite sad that people feel that they have to follow the word of a mythical being to make sense of their lives. God does not exist, heaven does not exist and there is no afterlife. Thankfully, more and more people are waking up to the lie, and some time in the future religion will become obscure, although sadly there will always be a few misguided believers, and a vast number of lunatics who still cling on. God did not create man, man created God.
