when you run out of things to do at work do you ask if there is anything else you can do, just make out that you are still working or pace your work out over the day so that you are always working, just a bit slower when there is not so much to do? Do you look around and see others doing the same and think if it's good enough for them then it's ok for me?
It depends if I actually have nothing to do, then yes because working is ll political and you have to be seen to want to work, other wise you ar etold you ar enot motivated enogh for your job, and so therefore less of a bonus.
If I manage to complete a task I am always asking about new ones that I can have otherwise I would get bored just sitting around twiddling my thumbs. I like to be kept nice and busy during the day. I don't think I pace myself either. I just do the work and finish whenever, though probably do linger a little longer on jobs I really enjoy.
I am bored stupid as work as not mentally stimulated by my job and spend most of the day asking for other things to do or if anyone wants a hand with anything as I would rather be too busy than too quiet.
Problem is that it can look try hard so I tend to try and do it on the quiet with people so they don't think I am just a prat. Everyone else in my office makes their work fit their day so something that I would do in 1 hour can take them the whole day. They just aren't interested in doing anything and it frustrates me as I end up doing everyone else's work and get no recognition for it. I could never do that as I would feel useless and also after 13 years of working in roles where you are flat tack from the minute you walk in the office and always have carry over work I have just become accustomed to doing everything at a certain pace and cannot change.
Not really a problem for me as the sort of work I do is so loosely defined that I can just spend a little longer on some aspect of it that could do with a little more polishing. Knowing when to stop and when it's good enough is more the problem. I also usually know what my next task is and can always begin the preparatory work for that. And if that fails, there are always mountains of relevant background reading and research to do.
i always try and get everything out of the way and more over if i run out i will get something else to do. Makes the day tick by that little bit faster, if i am sitting doing nothing or working slowly it doesnt half make the day drag.
i do see people lazing in the office making out they are working and this annoys me - i could do it but i have self pride.
i always pace myself so i never run out or i would have nothing else to do. there is only really me here to do the work on most days so it is up to me what i do first and when i do it so there is never really a problem i just take breaks and go on the internet inbetween work to spread the day out a bit more. if i am really short for work i will ask for something else if there is anything but things are slow at the moment anyway as i am in the office for an electrical company and there is not much work coming in
