we receive many leaftets asking for clothing collections, which i regularly contribute to, hoping to help out people less fortunate than our selves, today i received a leaflet, from a charity called, SHC COLLECTIONS LTD, i have never actually read the fine print on these leaflets, but today i did, it states in small print that they are a charity collecting clothing, so that they can make clothing available to eastern european countries,at affordable prices! surey if we are giving the clothing away, the people in these countries should get them for free, i dont understand how they can be charged, or is there something i am missing? has anyone got any info on this?

Also, there has been some publicity about people who go around neighbourhoods when they know there has been a charity bag drop and they take the bags for thier own purposes, so the charity never gets them. Also, I've seen the people collecting the bags and they just throw then into the back of the van - this is OK if there are just clothes in the bags but they also ask for crockery and ornaments and anything that can be resold in their shops. I now prefer to fill the bag and take it myself to the charity shop.

I get a lot of these leaflets too and honestly don't trust them. I only give to charities that I recognise, or to local organisations/fundraisers for the local community. I don't like the idea of someone else making a profit from my charity - might as well sell it on ebay and keep the proceeds myself! I prefer to take things into a charity shop where I know they are reaching the right destination and will be used. On the other hand, sometimes it's just nice to have someone (anyone) come and take your junk away for free and to know its going to be used.

These companies even as charities like to make a profit otherwise how could the directors drive ferrari's and porsche's. Not saying that is true of all charities but if you investigate the heads of most charities you will see that they get a darned good income and lifestyle. The issue I have is that we have so many needy people in our own country shouldn't we be helping out those on our own doorstep first? Or maybe they sell the clothes overseas then invest the profits into the UK - which would make me more positive about them. Sounds like a bit of a con though and a charity that wants to make good money to pay out high wages.

Never give to these people!!! they run a second hand clothes market stall and employ cheap labour. They are in fact, just begging for things to sell on. The guy round here that does it also thieves the donations left out on a sunday night in front of the charity shops. Its a con, pure and simple.

THEY ARE NOT A CHARITY. THEY SELL YOUR GOODS FOR PROFIT.
SMALL PRINT DOES NOT GIVE A CHARITY REGISTRATION NUMBER.
IF YOU WANT TO GIVE FIND A GENUINE CHARITY, THERE ARE PLENTY OF SHOPS AROUND, PDSA, MARIE CURIE, HEART FOUNDATION, SCOPE, etc., TAKE YOUR PICK OF ALL THE REAL CHARITIES.
I repeat, this, like all the other leaflet companies, are conning you. they SELL your goods and little, if any, of the proceeds is given to charity.

charity shops rely on donations of clothes and bric-a-brac or they couldn't do what they do to help the poor and unfortunate

A lot of these leaflets are printed to get stock for car boot sales and NOT for people in other countries. The genuine charity bags willhave a charity number printed on them which can be checked on the Internet bny logging onto the Charities Commission website. i dont leave my old clothes for the fly-by-night people and only for the genuine charities. I agree with Suzzie that sometimes you just want to get shot of the bags of junk. I usually call up the local branch of any charity i can think of and they will tell you if and when they have collections in your area.

I have had 3 different bags and or leaflets this week from various charities allegidly asking for clothes etc. I always read the leaflet as some are charities looking for donations to sell through their charity shops and others are companies that collect and then sell them on to charities. I never give anything to the ones that the companies that are making a profit. In our village we have a village hall that raises money to keep it going and has jumble sales once a month so I try and give my things to them because that way at least we are getting something back that is useful to us. If there are things that I have which wont sell there then I either use the genuine charity bags that get put through the front door or take it to a chairty shop myself. I have had a bit of a clearout this week and have given 20 black bags of cloths away. Mainly to the local jumble sale but the childrens blind chairty had about 4 bags as well. Always check the small print on the bags and leaflets as it is so easy to get caught out when you are doing something worthwhile there is always somebody willing to make a quick buck.
