I think it has even though I am a smoker. It has left bars, pubs and clubs smelling better, and a night out is a lot lighter on my wallet. I used to spend a lot on cigarettes because I'd get drunk and smoke a 20 pack in one night, whereas now I manage to keep to 5 or less if I stay in one venue, because I don't want to go outside to have one. Also, there are less complications with worrying about blowing smoke into the wrong direction, and smokers can be pleased they are only damaging themselves again!
It has been a positive thing for those who are non-smokers, or "social smokers" who are now able to socialise smoke-free. It has also put off some of the less hard-core smokers, so I guess it has "saved" some people. But I think the pub experience now is missing something. I have smoked maybe 10 cigs in my entire life, but I used to enjoy the smell that used to be a big part of pub life. Now I tend to go with my smoker friends and I sit outside (come rain or shine) and make the most of the fumes. I think that it would have been better to give pubs the choice. They could remain smoking, but not have a bursury, or become non-smoking and have a bursury. That way there is some incentive to become non-smoking, but it is not forced upon everyone, and we as people can have a choice of smoking or non-smoking instead of being forced out in all weathers.
I'm a non-smoker but did not object to smoking inside. However, I welcomed the smoking ban and it does make the inside of pubs, clubs etc., a much healthier place to be. My only objection is that on leaving and entering a non-smoking place, I always seem to get a direct faceful of smoke blown at me!
Yes it definately has been a great thing. It is lovely to be able to go out and not become short of breath becasue someone is smoking around you. It is lovely to go on a noght out and not go home with your hair and clothes stinking of smoke. It is a fab thing
Yes, of course. I don't smoke, my mum does and it drives me mad!! Whenever I'm in the kitchen or guests come over a smoking fest starts and I end up stinking of smoke. It should be banned everywhere, even in homes if possible!!!
Yes it is a pleasure to sit in a pub etc without the revolting smell and breathing in the clouds of smoke . It has also encouraged some to give up the habit and if that means only 1 life is saved it has got to be a good hing.
