They reckon the 'musical' is making a big come back with Mamma Mia the film being the latest release. But do you think the new musicals (Chicago, mamma mia etc) are as good as the old ones?
I thought Mama Mia would stand up to any of the old favourites. The scenery was glorious, the story and the songs worked wonderfully together. Superb cast, lots of humour, wonderful acting, and ok, some of the singing was a bit dodgy but hey, think back to Christopher Plummer in The Sound of Music!
I didn't know what to expect when I went to see mamma mia, Im not a big fan of musicals but it was great, I had to stop myself from singing along to some of the classic abba songs - though some people in the cinema couldnt help themselves. It was a happy, foot tapping, feel good film that I could quite happily watch again. I might even buy it when it comes out on DVD so that I can sing along and have a bit of a dance at home. Dont take the film too seriously and you might find yourself laughing out loud like myself and a lot of the cinema audience. - Enjoy
I went to a press preview last monday evening to see Mamma Mia. All the journos at the viewing were being cynical and saying things like "Its a Saga karoake night for the older hen parties" but when I looked around, many of them were tapping their feet and humming to the music. I suppose by admitting that they were enjoying it, it would appear uncool to the others in the room. I loved it! At the end of the film everybody clapped so dont get put off by the bad reviews. Its a nice film to make you feel good and you will enjoy it. And all the stars in it do a good job and look like they were having a great time.
Chicago is amazing. I adore the film and the stage show. I've seen it on stage about 8 times and I love it more each time. I'd diie happy to perform on stage just once in that musical
