I am being driven to distraction with my husbands continuous loud snoring and I wonder if any body has any ideas what can be done? I am a very bad sleeper at the best of times and every night I sleep with ear plugs as far down my ear holes as I can stand but his snoring still gets through, I must admit it has got gradually worse over the years and I am continually prodding him and telling him to turn over, so he is having a broken nights sleep also. Has anybody any ideas because apart from separate beds I really am at my wits end?
I wish I could. I snore like a drain! It drives hubby mad and I feel bad if I keep him awake as he has to get up early for work and I worry about him being tired as he's a builder and it could get dangerous on site.
I know this is not good but if I want to get a good nights sleep I take a sinus tablet.. they clear my air ways and make it easier to breath, and i must tell you that I some times wake myself up snoring.. How I found out that the tablets work was recently when I had really bad sinus.. the kids said that I didn't snore as bad.I wouldn't recommend it on a regular basis, but once in a while can't hurt. you might also try a nasal spray.
Seperate rooms, a pillow over the offenders face, or try sleeping on your side with a pillow tucked round the side and back of your neck. Also try not to have a double chin, this makes it worse. Sorry.
I am sure there is a strip that when you put it on the nose it helps to reduce the noise. I do not know if it would cure it completely but I do think you should give it a try. I think I heard once that there is an operation one could have to stop the snoring. You should look it up if all else fails. Just google it and it should come up with something as google has all the answers!
Being overweight or consuming a lot of alcohol can really exacerbate snoring, so try tackling these first, maybe. Other possibilities are nasal strips to open airways, or sleeping on his side instead of his back: One way of ensuring this is to get him to wear a top with breast pockets to bed, but wear it back to front and put a tennis ball in the pocket(s). This way, whenever he rolls over onto is back, it'll be so uncomfortable he'll roll right back on his side. If it's really getting to you then I suggest getting some advice from a doctor, especially if his breathing between snores seems to stop, as this can be very dangerous. Good luck!
The only completely 100% proven way to stop it is to get a new husband. Only kidding. The strips you can buy at the chemist can work on some people but don't on others but are well worth a try. My husband only snores when laying on his back so when he starts I tend to nudge him and he rolls on his side and it stops - luckily this doesn't happen often. Also smoking etc can cause it or restricted airways. There are treatments they are do surgically but that is a pretty severe treatment. Suggest that you try the strips first, some vicks or something if he is blocked up and then failing that check with the doctor.
