With the growing number of gambling (poker/bingo) sites on the internet I wonder if it is increasingly becoming easier to get addicted. I have never visited any of these sites as I know I've got quite an addictive personality and would probably get sucked in. Do you think its easier for people who otherwise may not have travelled to casino/bingo hall to get addicted?
If I found games that I enjoyed and then started to gamble, I'd be broke in no time. I think it is easier to get addicted online. I've never been to Bingo or a Casino in my life because I was brought up not to do that. But online gambling is different and much less effort. Also you can access it 24/7. For a lot of people this can be very dangerous; there's always that hope of getting a big win. I have to stay away from it because I know I tend to have an addictive personality - I spend far too much time online as it is, but if I gambled as well it would be disastrous.
Oh good greif, I just hope gamblers don't start blaming the On-line gambling sites for their addictions and wasted money? I have never gambled myself, and really don't feel the want to either. I am constantly getting those annoying 'Bingo' pop ups/adverts and they only make me eager to close the windows down, not throw my money away. There are so many betting shops and casinos at hand these days, people don't have to travel a million miles to find somewhere to satisfy their addiction. I think maybe some get a buzz from actually 'physically' being in a Casino, or with other gamblers in a Bingo hall etc. Either you have an addictive/gambling personality or you don't.
Gambling online, it is tricky because I have gambled online, lost far too much money to even think about going back on it again! At the time I thought I would be able to make my money back for the university tuition course that I was doing and the loans I took out for the university. Unfortunately it did not work out as planned and I ended up loosing a lot. I find that because you cannot see the money, it is easier to spend it than if you had it in your hand!
I have visited a number of online site and was a regular member of a bingo site for about 5 months. I played it more nights and in the weekends but am lucky that I don't have an addictive personality and when I stopped winning I stopped playing. I was very lucky that I got £10 free play and won £40 off that. Kept playing and actually won £1000 jackpot while still on my winnings as such. Would draw all my winnings out, put £10 back in and keep playing and was for about 4 months making some money out of it. Then the membership seemed to suddenly jump and the odds on the games dropped and I didn't win the same so stopped playing. Lots of people on their though were chatting and saying how they had no money for groceries as had lost £50 that day or even more. People who won £1000 jackpots often mentioned that they had lost it by playing with it and not winning and not withdrawing - that really scared me. If you know you have an addictive personality you should avoid these sites at all costs!
