If it's only a few days past it's often alright - depends what it is - wouldn't trust meat or fish much past their date, but packed vegetables from supermarkets often have ridiculously short dates and I often end up finishing them a few weeks past their date. Once tried a fishcake 4 days out of date which was pretty disgusting - should have guessed it from the smell! Chocolate's fine a couple of years out of date and beer lasts pretty well too. I read an article once in new scientist about people eating food out of date - things like a 5 year old cornish pasty and someone who ate their grandparents' wedding cake which had been kept in a tin all those years. It also said about these barrels of butter that had been discovered buried in a bog in Ireland for hundreds and hundreds of years - apparently it smelled pretty rank but was amazingly still actually edible - not sure I'd like to try it though!

I have always preferred carpet in my lounge as I feel it is a lot comfier and warmer especially in winter and now that prices of fuel are rising so much I think it will be a lot warmer in a house with carpets than laminate. The main advantages to laminate is that children will have more difficulties damaging it and also it will be good for people who have many allergies especially so to dust mites. Children though will not find it as comfy when playing as they often sit on the floors. I am still happy with my carpet though.

Do the toilet rolls you buy for your bathroom match the colour of your decorations? My husband thinks I am potty always buying the same colours of toilet rolls he does not think it is at all important to coordinate the colours with your decor in the bathrooms and this really annoys me because if he goes shopping he just picks up any colour that comes to han. I tend to use the odd colours he buys in the upstairs loo so that if we have visitors the ones downstairs match.
