It's hard to create unequivocal and unargumentative definition of plagiarism. Generally it is said that plagiarism is appropriation of someone else's work or creative idea, under personal surname issued. It could be literal, or by making small changes to the work; i.e. by closely paraphrasing it. Of course it occurs when you're failing to include quotations or give the appropriate citation. But do you think that pasting simple press facts (like presenting poll results conducted for some newspaper) is a kind of plagiarism? When you put it as a background to your question? I know that at least in some countries this is excluded from law definition of plagiarism.

Plagiarism is something that is not yours (in other words copied) but which you take credit for. I had this drilled into me so many times in college!
