On Thursday 24th April the National Union of Teachers have called a national strike to complain about their pay and many schools will be shut. While I can see their point that their pay is laughable, should they really be allowed to strike? Their problem is with the Government, but it is the parents and children who suffer from strike action. I have only had two days notice, and so arranging alternative childcare has been impossibl, as a consequence I am having to use a day of annual leave and other parents are losing a day's pay to look after their children. It is also disrupting the childrens' education at a time when teachers are insisting that even doctor's and dentists appointments are made out of school hours to avoid such disruption. So is this strike fair?

yes, but only if they have negotiated first and if a strike is necessary. I had two teachers who left their union before the recent strike because they didn't agree with it, I think most teachers in my school are not unhappy with their pay but had to strike anyway.
