We have heard TV and media talking about the recent floods being set down as the worse in living memory, we have been constantly reminded about issues on the environment and that they are the work of global warming.
Yes it is warmer now than a thousand years ago but it was colder thousands of years ago with the ice age and in time the earth will cool down again and the governments will be warning everyone the earth is getting colder and one day it will.
You have only got to think about the ice ages, let nature take its course and let's not interfere.
Ok, so let's agree. It's global warming and with it we face major rain events and hotter summers in the future. Over hundreds of years the earth has fluctuated in its temperatures, just take the ice age for instance, there's no telling we could go back to those times. Lets say we have concrete evidence that the environment is suffering through global gasses, so why haven't the govt done anything concrete concerning the environment? Think back to the early years, ok technology was not so good then, so there's no excuse now with many inventions since only the 30s. Nearer time, only 8 years ago, just after the drought, year 2000, rationed water and hose pipe bans were familiar. Remember the water table being at its lowest for 8 years; even then we were blaming global warming.
The media and govt predicting desert like areas, the heavens opened and down came the rain followed by serious floods. Question, Could we have saved all this water? We didn't and instead we let it drain back into the seas, we had let all this lovely rain go. Several years on after facing a water shortage and the floods, we find ourselves in 2007 and nature taking care of itself once again, more lovely rain.
Many years elapsing between the great floods and still there has been little movement towards helping our environment.
Flooding catastrophe, could the scale of damage have been lessened?
How many years have elapsed between these great floods of the past; flooding the same areas and houses in the same villages year after year, the same stories hitting the headlines.
Uncertain of the way we British think, it's a stigma attached to our British culture, that for when we build something great; like the dome for instance, initially built for the millennium.
With every good idea implemented and built, these projects eventually get suppressed.
I am absolutely convinced that these recent floods and the damage to people's homes could and ought have been avoided, we have become very complacent and after any serious event or disaster that occurs in our country, we are always too late and then find ourselves picking up the pieces.
We know these same areas flooded several years ago and we know there is a money issue, but balancing the cost of building sufficient dams and flood defences to protect these hot spots in comparison to the flood damage, claims etc. I will let you decide.

Flooding catastrophe, could the scale of damage have been lessened?
It's only now we doubt our drainage systems, we have had serious floods way back too the Victorian times, drains didn't cope then and are still are the same today. I do not want to criticise the Victorian times too much, the Victorians did know how to recycle everything; remember?

We worry about a power station being shutdown in the course of the floods and so we should, but why had this happened, we have all this technical know-how and yes! I think I would be concerned to be without power.
We do have candles to fall back on though and that would not be a bad thing, returning back to the Victorian ways, we could certainly learn and take a page from their books.

The town of Gloucester were facing power failures. A power station in Gloucester shire that supplies 500,000 homes had been saved from flooding after a major operation involving hundreds of fire-
Fighters, the situation was so critical, the cabinet's emergency committee Cobra was warned, the Walham substation was in danger of being swamped, in the year 2007? We could have built great dams by now and could be gargantuan; we would certainly not have to agonize about water issues ever again. We could even build dams that don't crack; did they not foresee this?
The govt could have paved the way and built great dams.
Let's build Dams big enough and create surplus water so that we could export all the surplus water to the third world and stop these people drinking from dirty water holes; intoxicated with diseases.
I am sure with all the technical fluency and forward thinking this could probably be done. Many years have elapsed from 1930's and 8 from the year 2000, I did get an o level in maths. Nothing has been done to protect towns like Gloucester; I make it sound quite simple. It is.
Take the typical car; we just love them, don't we? And quite frankly I will never ever change; I will always have a car, in actual fact the car industry are probably progressing faster towards helping the environment than the government are and that's not only the present govt but governments of past history, they are all to blame, who else has this power to change things. We don't!
Climate change is already beginning to impact on us. Droughts, floods and other weather changes are causing problems that we need to deal with now. We need to adapt to the pressures of climate change, and ensure that we can cope, whatever the weather brings and its 2007; 60 years on from the more serious floods of 18oos and 1947. Wouldn't it be grand if we could build great dams so we could export the water to the poorer countries and recycle almost everything we use, why now after all these years we have only decided to combat climate change.
Climates over the years have changed and nature has taken care of its self, so I ask this question, is the climate changing.
We could be the great leaders of the world, if only we put our heads together and create grand ideas. Let's face it; two heads are better than one. Most often we do, but something happens and the decay sets in, is it because we are Great Britain or the best of British many cultures around the world does come up with some splendid technological inventions and all we do is dismiss them because we are British, what happened to world reunite, great things we build, soon fade away and are soon a thing of the past, its like a roller coaster, We don't need to spend millions on these worthless modern structures, lets keep it simple lets use the money from the poll taxes and the lottery to support the NHS and flood defences and if the climate is changing lets use it for the cost of protecting our world, create good safe cycle paths better train service to release cars from our roads, tram systems, and now, only now we are seeing more and more wind farms and the wind as been around for billions of years.
Channel the money into all these simple solutions instead of wasting it on buildings like the millennium, we need to get it back on track again before we think about building fancy buildings that are just are forgotten about in the end.
All we need to do is stop and pause for thought again.
