I think they are very outdated and unnecessary in today's world and above all they stop the British public voting for the leader of the country, i think at the very least the British Royal Family need to modernize with the times.
My reasons for wanting them abolished are: I believe in democracy. Having someone who is not elected as our head of state is not democratic and neither is the house of lords. I think there is too much elitism in this country. The monarchy live off of the tax payers money living in luxury, travelling in luxury and being educated at expensive establishments while the average tax payer is fighting to get their children into half decent schools, struggling to pay mortgages during a recession and having to save their money to go on holiday if they're fortunate enough to even have one. The monarchy cost this country a lot of money. So many people say that they bring in tourism and our economy would suffer without them but I wonder how much more money Buckingham Palace would make if it was open during the winter. People don't come here to see the royal family, it's not like they can have tea with the queen, they come to visit our beautiful palaces and learn about our history. And that's exactly where the monarchy belong, in history.
A postmaster in Nottingham has started to refuse to serve customers who cannot speak English, the thing about this story is that the postmaster is a Sri Lankan immigrant and he says that if your come to Britain you should speak English. He says that the customers that he refuses to serve come back with an interpreter to ask for what they want and that none of them complain, I wonder how many complaints would have been made if the postmaster was English. I think that if people want to come to Britain and stay then they should have a basic grasp of the English language.
Of course everyone living in a country should learn to speak the language of the country for their own benefit more than for the benefit of a country. However, when you first arrive in a new country it should be expected that it will take some time for you to learn the language and that even if you do know the language you may not be confident speaking it. These things take time and I think it's unfortunate that the postman can't be more understanding about this, especially as he himself would have had to learn the language. In addition to that tourists often use post offices. I know that I don't speak fluantly the language of every country that I visit so why would I expect all tourists to be able to do the same. I think he should do the job that he's paid to do and until the post office come up with a policy that states that you must speak English to be served he should be serving anyone.
First of all let me express my condolances to Jades family those boys lost a loving mother on mothers day what a shame she had to be taken away but at least she has now got no more pain. However I think the press need to leave this family to grieve in their own way and all this before Thursday when Jack is back in court and I know he deserves to be punished but two little boys have lost their mum and now the step dad they have grown to love may be taken from them as well all within a week what harm have they done to deserve it all ?
I think that the camera's should have left her alone a long time ago and let her die with some dignity and some peace. I know that she courted the press but I see her as a victim of the press, someone who became so adicted to publicity that even at the end she didn't want to stay out of the newspapers. Now that she's gone I hope they give her family time to grieve. I honestly don't see why anyone would be interested in photographs of her family grieving but I know there are people out there that for some inexplicable reason are really interested in this kind of thing. Those poor children have lost their mother and they need the time and space to deal with that. Media attention will only make it more difficult.
